Articling Student

ABORIGINAL LEGAL SERVICES, a non-profit organization providing a range of services to Toronto’s Aboriginal community, requires an ARTICLING STUDENT. The Articling Student will assist with client files in the areas of social assistance, tenant protection, human rights, police complaints, Coroners Inquests, Indian Act matters, and test case litigation. In addition, the Articling Student may conduct and/or assist with legal education programs and law reform activities.

Applicants must have completed Law School at an accredited Canadian University or meet the Law Society of Upper Canada’s (LSUC) requirements for transfer students. Candidates must be enrolled in the LSUC licensing process.

An understanding of Aboriginal Culture, history, traditions and aspirations is essential. Ability to speak an Aboriginal language, prior involvement with other Aboriginal organizations, and previous experience in a legal setting are desirable.

Funding for this position has been provided by Miziwe Biik Aboriginal Employment and Training Services. Under the provisions of the funding agreement, candidates must be Aboriginal and registered with Miziwe Biik Aboriginal Employment and Training Services.
